emissions regulations - roll on EURO 3 bargins?

With the impending EURO 3 emissions rules looming large on the 2007 horizon does this mean manufacturers/dealers will be trying very hard to shift non-compliant metal come the end of this year?
Does anyone out there in dealer land foresee a glut of slashed priced new bikes as old EURO 2 stock is peddled off the showroom floor?
I'm wondering if I do a bit of saving between now and Crimbo could I realistically hope to snatch a seriously good deal on a EURO 2 bike, what's the word from the floor so?

You will probably start get loads of pre-reg bikes at dealers.

So which bikes don't comply then?

Current SV650 & SV1000, i think, not sure though. I herd talk about the ECU in the SV having to be upgraded to make it past the next tests.

From the Suzuki line-up I think the current model GSF 650 and Bandit 1200 won't meet EURO 3 requirments without work.

:reaper: for the little Bandit at last, I reckon. Though I keep on getting that wrong. Most of the easy emissions fixes will drop its power still further.

Yeah surely this is the end of carbs?

What get-out clauses are there?

What about 125cc 4 stroke learner bikes and mopeds? Surely it won't be cost effective to fit fuel injection and cats to them?

Or the two stroke 50cc scooters?

I'm wondering what Triumph are going to do with the Bonneville. Are there other retro bikes that still use carbs?

Euro 3 doesn't have to mean FI, it's just easier to meet with it since they're potentially much more controlled. I think the Hornet's Euro 3 compliant with carbs, for instance, though i can't swear by it. Wee, understressed engines can be incredibly efficient too. Wee, hard pushed engines tend not to be though. The Virago/Dragstar 125 lump was Euro 3 compliant from the word go, if what I've read was correct, and Jesus learned on one of those.

It's all a bit daft, catalytic converters are pretty much a disaster on bikes- we cover small miles, mainly, so the environmental cost of making the cat is higher than the environmental cost of an un-catted bike. But the end-use emissions laws are tighter than the manufacturing pollutant laws, so for the manufacturers it makes more sense.

I'm told that modern fuel injected 2 strokes are also good with regards emissions, but I'm not sure whether that's true or not...
