Ok shes done 8.2K now..and due a service...

been quoted about £180 for the service!!....

so - should I do it meself>??????

I have a Haynes so must have a good look what it entails really!!......

but I cant balance the carbs and all the techno stuff.. so should I pay and have it done.??

Do the oil plugs and filters yourself,lube the cables and check the checky bits.If the bike runs OK leave the rest alone until you feel it needs looking at then get someone who knows to do the specific bits you can't do.

DO it yourself...

and check everything else it says to check in the Download manual also...

Yup, CR8E. A lot of people say it's just the oil, plugs filter... There's other things that should be done- checking of bolts being a major one that gets overlooked. There's a thread right at the top where someone's rear caliper came loose- that's the sort of thing that a thorough service is supposed to prevent. Carb balance is pretty much essential, it can go out in 1000 miles never mind the service gap.

Also, familiarity can cause problems... You can get used to a fault and never even know it's there when it happens slowly- my clutch actuator was grinding metal on metal, the bearings completely disintegrated, but because it happened over thousands of miles I never even noticed. And I came across a home-serviced bike that was looked after by a very handy owner, that had nearly lost 2 of the 4 subframe bolts :shock: Getting a fresh pair of eyes on your bike is often useful.

I'm not saying don't do it- in fact, I'd say don't be afraid of it, you may find you enjoy it- I started working on my old bike because I had no choice, but I soon came to love it. But don't underestimate it either, there's a little more and a lot less to it than some people will make out.

and I have more satisfaction when I do it myself... some weeks ago I went a step further and justified the clairance of the valves (you know what I mean :wink: ) ok it took me a day more or less, I made some stupid mistakes, but after all every thing sorted out verry good... and I was happy I could do it myself (with the right tools) and didn't have to spend my euro's to a local Suzuki dealer...

ok, know what is the next step.. :D

Material costs for oil, filter, air filter, plugs will set you back about £50 to £60 IIRC.
