Comments on my GSXR forks plan please...

Hi All,

I been reading this board for a while, but have finally felt the need to post :)

I'm planning to fit RWU gsxr600(k1-3) forks to my curvy rather than USD as i prefer the 'classic' look. I think i can do this with the following (not including speedo, clipons etc):

gsxr600 srad yokes + new bearing (to keep lock stops and steering lock)
k1-k3 forks + calipers (tubes are same diameter as srad)
srad wheel/discs (because it looks the same as the rear)

My only sticking point is the front axle appears to be different between the srad and the >k1, same diameter but different spacer size. Is this right and could i get one or other axle turned down to fit or small spacers made? :?

Any help/comments would be greatfully received.

Jon

All you need to get is a Spindle + Nut(spacer/nut thingy  ) for an SRAD 600

The calipers will also need to be spaced out slightly. I can't remember by how much off hand but Northy  will be along in a moment to tell you

Cheers
Ben

buy my usd forks and calipers...and clipons, and master cylinder (look at for sale section) and let that be that!

Then buy northwinds wheels and disks maybe....then there is very little left to get i think...

I have just done RWU forks but on a curvey SV, what is yours?

Only little issue i have is that the SRAD clipons dont have as much rise as the SV ones. I need to find a diffrent set. Also the front forks are at least 1cm shorter so you should realy use a 120/70 tyre, but a 120/60 will work fine. My bike seems to steer very quckly but i dont mind it.

If you are using 4pot calipers you can reuse the standard SV MC.

You will have to grind away a tad of the headstock so that the parking lock works properly. Other than that its all been fitted to my bike and so far its working fine. I did it because i had a good deal on the bits otherwise i would have probably done a 750 USD upgrade.

By a bit :) I got a bag of incredibly poorly toleranced M8 washers, picked out the thickest ones, found 4 that were the same, and bingo... On paper it should be 1.5-2mm, IIRC, but I've got a 1mm washer between each fork and caliper and it works perfectly.

Is th SRAD 6 axle the same as the 750? I think so but don't want to swear by it.

Psst, want to buy some gold powdercoated wheels? :) SRAD front, SV rear. Got a rear wheel speedo drive conversion setup for them too. Drop me a PM if interested ;)

Thanks, but i don't think gold is really my colour :)

Cheers for all the advice.
