Grass cutters
My neighbour got a new grasscutter today, oh how I laughed at this weedy electric thing with a bright orange cable that wasn't long enough, it made a whizzing noise and threw all the grass out the back over his feet. Mine's a well bashed 18 inch petrol thing that has long seen better days but it collects the grass and sounds like a grasscutter should sound. And when it breaks down I can fix it myself. I was thinking of changing it but hell no, not now I seen this piece of crap next door.

I was supposed to help my dad with his lawn today. But it turned out that after my grandad died, dad inherited his tools, and chucked out his own mower. And what looks like a mower turns out to be an electric moss rake  So we raked some moss instead.

I paved my lawn years ago. Nice days are for bikes not work.

Is a grass cutter the same as a lawn mower ? or is it just solicitor speak ? . i've got a petrol 21" lawn mower and it takes 1 and a half hours to cut my grass, an electric one would take all day. i think i need a ride.

My folks last house had huge gardens, dad had a sit on mower for the back and a big 21" atco he used for the posh lawn at the front. However the house was built in a glacial valley and they had about 60 ft bank at the side.
For the bank we had a petrol flymo that we would attach a rope to, start at the top. Let it hover its way down and the haul it back up step sideways and lower. We tried the petrol strimmers and TBH they were not much use. Other problem being there was something nasty in this bank. After one days mowing my brother got some sort of parasite that burried through the skin. He knew there was something wrong when you could see the track marks growing along his arms as the buggers tunneled. After that any mowing was in full overalls even in the middle of summer. |
When I was living up by Fort William, the house had about a bleeding acre and a half of grass. Took 5 hours with a petrol strimmer to chop just 20% of it down to mowerable length. Local gardener wanted a fortune to strim and cut it all.
I took the fence down at the back and let in about 30 sheep from the field behind :) Took them a couple of days to eat it down to mower length. Shoo'd them out and put the fence posts back in. The quite from the gardener to keep it trimmed was well worth the sundays out on the bike. Colin |
