OEM filter is around the 18 quid mark iirc.

There are a few patten ones around for about £10-11ish.

K&N make pods you could use... So do Pipercross. Definately need rejetted though, if it's done right- apparently to get the best use you need to drill out the pilot air jet too (it's push-fitted in, to make things interesting. PLus you need to redirect the crank breathers.

Or you could try and find the filters Renegade used for the injected model airkit- they're not very free-flowing, so they wouldn't run you as lean. (at least, I assume as much- if you were to put K&N pods on, the bike would barely run, but I gather the Rene kit doesn't need remapped) Though you have to ask why you'd bother ;)

I was working on a ZXR750 that the garage because they could not get an original airbox decided to put pod filters on, the darn thing would not idle at anything lower than 3k and also would not start easly. I changed everything back to stock eventualy and it all started to run smoothly again. Air boxes are designed to do several things that pod filters dont, slow the air down and make the air flow non turbulant amongst other things, without this you are more prone to problems in the cold as carb icing will be easier or will not work efficently though the rev range. (well this is part of what SidSquid said, mabey he will explain it again).
