Oil fill level, over or under.
Hi All,
Just got my SV650S K4 back from its 7500 miles service and I noticed that the oil level was right on the low mark. So off I went back to the garage and asked them to top it up. Now its just over the Full mark. What should I do? Drain it a little or take it back again? You'd have though by now all bike dealer would know what they are doing, especially when they are the franchise dealers. Grrrr.. insert Dastardly and Mutley sounds here. TIA. |
I take it that's the level when cold. If not the be very careful.
If its just a little over personally I would not worry could just be you hold the bike differently while checking. I would stay clear of that garage in future though. |
It depends; if you have any clutch or gear selection troubles*, then get a bit out. Otherwise don't fuss as long as it isn't grossly overfilled.
* A number of people have said that their bike has been a little fussy when the oil level is high. |
yeah, once you have made totally sure all the oil is settled, just slacken off the oil filter, and drain off a dribble, till you hit the line if you are worried, nothing to it.
I hold the bike up with one hand, down on my hunkers, and keep an eye on the window. You can get a good idea where dead center is by doing this. (Have someone handy to just make sure it doesnt go over maybe if you are worried.) Make sure the bike is level too, |
