IT help - hard drive question
are IDE and EIDE interfaces compatible?
we're talking internal hard drives here. cheers guys! |
IDE is old, EIDE is the updated version of that. Most people now call EIDE by the old name.
Assuming you're talking about stuff made in the last 10 years or so, then it's almost certainly compatible. |
ermmmmmmm, ta for the reply...how can i tell if the one i am thinking about ordering from dabs will fit. the one that has come out of the laptop is IDE.
i have just taken delivery of one (not an EIDE or an IDE) which is not compatible (schoolboy error on my part). any ideas? |
this is the one i am thinking of ordering http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx...0000,358250000

That be a laptop type hard drive, ordering it for a laptop I hope in which case better make sure its the right size to fit in your laptop
|
buffer, just lost the post I typed out.
As falco suggested. Just check the size of the disc that came out. If it's 2.5" then that one will fit. What type did you buy? Was it SATA by any chance? That wouldn't be compatible, as you've found out. |
