Dog Bones, updated from 14/05/05

Okay, 8,000 miles alot later..... Well today I took'em off and Hammer right'd em in rust free Black.
The bike handles great all I need now is to uprate to a GSXR1000 shocker.

While I was at it I decided to take the Stock shocker off and give that a clean up too.
Then thought balls to it all and washed the whole bike, my neighbours think I nuts as it was 9.45 PM when I finished washing the bike.

Have been interested in making a set of dog bones for the SV650S to lift the rear end up 2 inches, I've seen other threads about this but with no How too, So...
How too make new Dog Bones and Fitting...

Tool's required. 17mm Spanner
14mm Spanner
Hacksaw + Blades
Electric drill
6mm drill bit (pilot hole)
12mm drill bit
File, Engineers 1/2 round *******.
2 x 12mm bolt + nuts
Elbow grease, lots off.

1 ) Slacken the two nut's on the old dog bones, using the 17 and 14mm spanner's.
2 ) Lift the bike off the ground so the rear tyre and swinging arm are free to dangle.
3 ) Remove the old dog bones,
4 ) Messure the dia of holes, orignals 12mm and are 145mm between centres, 6mm thick.
5 ) Acquire suitable material to make new Dog Bones.
6 ) Mark out between centres (I used 133mm),raised the rear 2 inches
7 ) Manufacture new dog bones. Drill 6mm pilot holes and through with the 12mm drill bit, hold together with 12mm nut and bolt.
8 ) Tide up the hawsawing with the file.
9 ) Reassemble in revers order.

Nut's removed,

I'll test ride the bike for a couple hundred miles then remove them, clean them up and Hammerite them.

I've got a set of the JHS jack up plates on my curvy, think they're ally.

Does a GSXR 1000 shock bolt straight into a pointy then?

Richie 27-05-06 10:19 PM

Think you need to cut a bit out of the battery tray. but its not a hard mod to do.

Razor 27-05-06 10:20 PM

So kind of similar to the SRAD shock mod I have on the curvy then.

I don't know about that but its just the oil reservoir at the top you need to make room for.
