Top Gun (again)

I recall there being a Top Gun thread recently, I've just watched it on TV.
I forgotten how, well, erm,.........crap it is.

Its cheesy, the acting is pants, the story is weak and the continuity is awfull.

[GEEK!]
There is no such thing as a MIG-28 (migs always have odd number designations anyway) plus since when did the Russians have excocet missiles ?
Also (and I'm open to be corrected here as I only have a basic understanding of aerodynamics and bernoulli's law) flying canopy to canopy like that is impossible.
[/GEEK!]

Goose also needs to workout more if he's going to take his shirt off.

:D  :P

You watched it on Sky 1! HEhehe i did too.

I like it, for exactly the reasons you say - its cheesy, the acting is poor to say the least and there are so many mistakes.

But its a good blokes film. Guy meets girl, falls in love, flies fast jet, mate gets killed, rides a bike, shags his bird, gets back in plane, wins the war, gets promoted...and gets the girl.

It was a film not a documentary so its a tad inaccurate. A fair bit of "dramatic" licence [and I use that with dramtic licence too given the acting  ] was taken.

Theres a site listing over several hundred errors on it if you need to be that geeky. If you do, gimme a shout Ill find the link. :P

And it was a GPZ750.

*runs and hides

I used to love that film, back when I was a kid. And while the acting is pants and Kelly McGillis is a total minger some of the aerial camerawork is still excellent. The Mig 28's were actually U.S F5 Tiger II's (I love aircraft and not ashamed of it.......perhaps I should be)

The Soviets put odd numbers for fighters and even numbers for bombers.

The F-14 Tomcat is almost now out of US Navy service. The only country which still flies them is Iran!!!

At least one of them is a twin seater, so that would be a F5(F) or possibly a T38.
The F-5(E)s (MIG's in the film) where actually used as adversary aircraft at Fighter Weapons School more than A4's where.

I'll get me coat. :D
