Whining Gearbox

Hi All
Anyone out there with a gearbox like mine? I have a K5 with 4000 miles on the clock. The box begins to whine at about 40mph getting louder, quite raucous at 50. It is only speed related any gear will do. I can kick it into neutral at 50 and still get the noise. You can play it in and out with the clutch. It sounds like the gearbox sprocket bearing to me. The dealers mechanic suggested It might be front wheel bearings, what a cretin. I made the dealer ride it and he agrees that it is a transmission problem. I know it is under warranty but mister wheel bearing is going to pull my engine apart. It is frightening to think what he will do to it. This is my third SV and my first problem.

Make sure they give you a curtesy bike while yours is getting fixed!!!!!!! At least you'll have peace of mind when you get it back all running sweet. If they **** it up they will have to put it right under your waranty!!!

Just got back from my hols and spoken to the dealer. They had a Suzuki technician come down and look at the bike. They have concluded that the problem is my Scorpion exhaust twisting the engine in the frame causing the noise. They have readjusted the can and have all but got rid of the whine. It seems crap to me as the can has been untouched on the bike for a year and the noise is recent. I will collect the bike and check it out myself. Suzuki say it is a known problem, Anyone else out there come across this before?

Are they having a laugh !! .... are you sure its nothing as simple as the final drive chain too tight ?

As Far as I know scorpion only do an end can not a full system so it's only really one bolt. I'd be surprised if that could overwhelm the 6 or so Engine mounting bolts. However if the rear wheel alignment was out or the chain was dry / tension was duff you can easily get a whine from the chain?

Bottom line, whatever they want to blame, if the whine's gone and they haven't taken the engine apart happy days. 8)
