Anyone bought a computer from Dell?

I Ordered one on the Friday 26/5. I've had a lot of trouble with them but on Sunday they said that the financial side of things has been sorted and that my order should be with me in 5-7 working days.

Only concern is that it is still not showing on there order tracking service and I really am not in the mood for my 8th phone call to them.

Anyone had any experience of delivery timescales?

Cheers

Not myself but a mate at work tried to buy a PC from them. After about the tenth phone call he told them to shove it.

Oddly, our company uses Dell and they don't seem to have a problem, but i guess they'll be dealing with a different department than joe public. :?

Mine went swimmingly, apart from the bit they left out and the bit they gave me duff info about. But the first was sorted pretty much instantly- they refunded me not what I paid, but the full value of the soundcard, which meant I came away ahead on it... Very impressed with that. And the second (only one PCI-E slot) they're looking into now.

Delivery was smooth and fast, 5 days despite my oddball spec (I took a rubbish 5150 and upgraded it to abuse some deals) although I did get the same thing with it not showing in their tracking system at all.

Their telesales people are an absolute joke- but here's a hint. When you get a price, it's not final. The sales guys are all dying to give away parts of their commission, and frankly they're so incompetent you can't feel bad about taking their money :) I played 2 of them off against each other and got £75 off an already storming deal- just refused to close the deal on them. "I'll call back later" "I can offer you this right now" "I've already got a better offer from one of your other salesmen. Beat that, and it's yours" It's a ridiculous situation, you owe it to yourself to take advantage.

Most important though, there was nobody else that could meet their spec without being at least £200 more expensive- on a £600 machine, that's immense. Had to take some wee compromises on spec and upgrade after, but that's OK. The graphics cards they put in the lower end machines are utter rubbish, by the way, and the hard drive upgrades are just ridiculously expensive.

Ordered the brother-in-law one online, tracked all the way and arrived on the day stated. Only problem he's had is the ammount of viruses he gets from visiting porn sites and not upfating his virus checker.
Prefer to build my own myself.

Got my laptop from Dell a couple of years ago, it was delivered about 2 or 3 days after ordering. Not had a problem with it yet (fingers crossed), although it is slower than it was, I suppose there is a solution to this (de-frag etc) if I could be bothered!

I brought mine from dell and had no problems, it should show up on their tracking system soon but if payment has been delayed this may mean that shipping has been delayed until that is sorted out.

Might be worth waiting a few more days until payment has gone through and then checking their delivery service again...

On a slightly different note however I did purchase an Ipod through Dell and when this broke.. (not due to user error either!!) .. getting a refund proved impossible and took three months to sort out and many angry phone calls to call centers in India!!!.. but did finally get it resolved!

Yeah, by and large, well, actually, I have had no bothers with Dell. Grand, dull, machines. Get the job done. Queitly usually.

One time they delivered 10 machines to the lab when we ordered one. Dells all over the shop. I am not sure how that worked out wrt money, I offered to relieve them of one, but they didnt seem interested.

I wouldnt be too worried about the deliv, they will usually get it there by the time they say.

I think their customer facing roles have definitely slipped over the last few years. I recommended them to a friend, as I've being using them for years (as have work), and they gave him the right royal run around re his delivery.

At least once he finally got it, it's been behaving perfectly (Also makes my friends and family support role easier as I'm used to Dells  )

My ex flatmates have ordered from Dell before with no problems... Even go on verging on good service.

Shame you are having problems :( buying stuff online should just be simple, i can see why so many people still are iffy about it
