Ouch ! that's going to cost

Beasty bites back.

Went out for a blat to Bognor last night, as the main group was just sticking to the A29, I thought I'd use some back roads and meet them there.

Sweltering day, perfect roads, saw me hammering though the tight and twisties, up & down the box, hard breaking followed by hard acceleration, you know the kind of thing I really enjoy.

coming into one bend, bike pushed over hard to the left, slap down two gears, hard on the front brakes, active counter steering through the left bar, then ...................

No engine breaking, margins very close, so back brake, more push on the bars, and only just make it round (true brown trouser moment), though I'd missed a gear, not something I do often, but has happened in the passed, shuffle with the box on the way out of the corner, into neutral then back into second, yes defenetly in, no drive, dam ................

Pull over, have a fag.

without the engine running I can select all the gears without problem, but under load 2nd & 3rd are history, first is defenately feeling distinctly secondhand.

So currently it runs fine and sort of works, I just haven’t the time to spend on it at the moment.

1 = sounds like a socket set being dropped into a enpty oil drum, but kind of works
2= bye, bye / gone for good
3= doing a very good impression of second
4/5/6 = working fine.
although the triple engine is working fine the gearbox could go at any minute, so any trip could be the last on it, at the moment
I've got a selector cam and pinion, fully loaded output shaft and the selector forks, but it's finding the time to do it, is my biggest problem.
Looking at just throwing a secondhand lump in as that will only take 4/5 hours or so, and chasing two deals as we speak. So should know by Tuesday.
Hey, I broke it, but did have fun doing so, bit of a pain but no great problem.

Cheers Mark.

Bad news. How many miles had it done when it gave up?

Wow, that sounds like a proper brown trouser moment indeed.

Glad you got out of it ok and good luck sorting the parts

to be honest, I don't think it's anything to do with the amount of mileage, be the type, being my 6th T5 engine, I've never had a problem before with gearboxes, or even heard of one, so can't really complain.

but if it'sany help, currently just over 78,000 miles.

Cheers Mark.

I reckon it was a case of "the gearbox died doing what it loved".

I'm sure knowing Mark it will be back on the road within the week. :)
