Fastest way out of London

Now that the weather has become much more cheerful, I have been able to get out of London at the weekends for rides much more :D

Thing is I live pretty much in the middle and takes me at least and hour and half to get out of London  i.e not 30mph, littered with speed traps and traffics lights. I usually head down the A217 through Mitcham, Rose Hill etc toward Reigate - A25, A29 etc as I'm from that area and know the roads and now has become habit.

This weekend I stayed at a friends place (in Kent) and it was great being able to ride straight away. So, my question is to those who live in London, what is the quickest way to get out to some more 'enjoyable' roads. :?:

My brother lives in Honor Oak, he's out quite a bit with work on location.

Not sure what routes he uses, but he seems to be kinds fast.

He's on an R6, he's also a bit mental :P

Let you knw if he can suggest any alternate routes.

PS my orientation of London extends to Heathrow Express, Paddington Station and

the taxi rank outside.

I live in Ealing in West London.

Why dont you go up the M1 into Hertfordshire or go round North circular (A406) to either the A40 (M40) or the M4. All those ways will get you out of London from Kentish town within in hour for sure! Once on those motorways you can branch off onto some twisty A roads.

Westway or for other direction the road that heads off to the M11. Have tried both as a way of getting out of central London on my way back up here, both pretty quick - and that was in a car.

You live in Kentish Town, go straight North up to Highgate, Muswell Hill onto the North Circ and out on the A10, Hertfordshire and Essex have much to offer.

from kentish town you can get to bow flyover, to redbridge, its then only a blast up M11, 1st exit 5 mins loughton - ongar, nice rd. 3rd exit 15 mins, Harlow, A414 - chelmsford very good also, lots of choices from there.

From Kentish Town, you can go north, get on the M1, then A41 to the Chilterns (or A41 from near Brent X, avoiding the M1 altogether, though M1 gets you out to the nice bits quicker).
