gggrrrr, brakes - how would air in the system affect brake ?
hi there boys,
after fitting braided hoses, bled the system. something feels quite (not right) there is a great bite, but you need to pull the lever hard to get the brakes to progress. hmm, mabe air in the system me thinks. but im sure there shouldnt be. so i get the brake cleaner out, clean up my calipars, pistons and pads. copper grease up my pins (this time i was surgical, i torqued everything up correctly) cleaned up the master cyclinder area , checking the whole system for leaks. checked fluid levels, now i find that my brakes are binding. im pretty sure there isnt any air in the system . . . would trapped air cause the brakes to bind ? or is there something else thats gone wrong here ? |
btw its def the brakes that are binding.
i found no evidence of sticky pistons. im gonna take it out for a ride later and find out which calipar is causing the problem (its def the calipars, the wheel spins fine without the calipars attached. |
Did you put new pads in recently, what is the disks edge like?
|
Air in the brake hydraulics will cause:
Spongy feel to pedal/lever Excessive movement to pedal/lever Never heard of air causing bind though! Thing is,Air/Gas is compressable,Brake fluid or ANY fluid for that matter isn't.Thats why brakes feel spongy if air in the system! I would say something mechanical is at fault if you have a bind problem. |

not new pads, disc is ok. if there was a problem with the discs, it would have been noticable before fitting the hoses and servicing the calipars surely ? |

they do feel spongy, infact they feel kinda cr*p the bit is great, but any more progress after just isnt that noticable. |
You have air in them then!
What about the binding? |
yep, there def binding.
i think its the left calipar, yet the pistons are clean, and move freely. ill try another set of brake pins to see if that helps. |
Yes but do the pads move freely?
|
thats a good question, and something i didnt check.
ill find out wednesday when i have em off., hope i havent done something silly like put the pads in the wrong way round. just out of interest, is it an easy job to fit new brake seals ? |
