lost track of kms, how much did i screw up my bike?
Hello all, first post here, first SV, first bike!!!
Picked up my bike (2001 650s) begining of June and already, to my supprise Iv done over 1900 kms. Now I know the book says to change oil at 1000 kms, but I completely lost track of how much I was doing. Will have to get supplies tomorrow because everywhere Iv tried around here seems to be closed on sundays. Now there seems to be some squeaking and a bit of ticking, not to mention how hot the bike gets in traffic. My question...Should I expect little bits of metal to come out when I change the oil tomorrow? Anything I should do other than change oil/filter to make sure all is well? Please excuse the newb questions, but, well, im a newb |
how many miles has it? Shouldn't need to change oil that often... :?

It now has 42000 kms on it.
According to the manual, and a shop book, its supposed to be changed every 1000. |
service intervals for the SV are 1st one at about 1000km (600 miles) then after than only every 4000 miles (around 6,500km).
If the bike had no miles on it you've gone a bit over, but I'd imagine it had already done a few, you don't need to change it every 1,000km thankfully  See if you can work out where the squeaking is coming from, when you brake, accelerate, pull the clutch in, just move it forward and back a little etc? |
