slow broadband connection

If anyone is experiencing really slow internet connections and you are with NTL then I have finally found out it is due to a bad proxy server.

If you are having this problem do the following:

in Internet Explorer go to Tools->Internet Options...

Then click the Connections tab and then LAN Settings...

In here in the Proxy settings section, tick the first tick and add this to the fields:

Address: 62.252.32.11
Port: 8080

This should direct you through a different proxy server and speed you up. If not, just remove these settings and the tick, and forget I typed anything here.

HTH some of you if you had a problem in the first place.

Not if their service isn't of merchantable quality and unfit for the purpose for which it's been sold.

If it's utterly crap, tell them, and say you wish to cancel as they have not fulfilled their contractual obligation.

How weird.........I was just going to post something asking for help with this! NTL is sooooooooo slooooooooooooow..... Do you know how I can check the speed of the connection whilst online?

Shinsei Jutsu 27-06-06 09:40 AM

unfortunately all the online speed checkers check your speed by downloading and uploading. And generally this isn't where the problem lies.

NTL are useless, they know they have a problem but won't admit it to anyone, they are trying to fix it. If you ring them they will go through so many other options before giving you a different proxy server local to you. The one I have posted I think is more SE/KENT area, so it may not help you all.

sorry
