attempted theft

am just back in the flat. my neighbour banged on my door about half an hour ago. 6 guys at my bike. they had the cover off and were attempting to lift the bike. he went out with big scary dog that was barking and snarling as he had hit it round the head a few times to make it play??? and a big stick or baseball bat. This is the second time he has done this in as many weeks. think its the first lot back. so just moved bike and chained it to the lamp post. fingers crossed they wont try again.

will phone police to advise in the morning

of course cant sleep now :(

It's good that you have such an assertive neighbor, make sure to thank him if you haven't already. I would recommend using a really, really thick chain that would require a saw to get through- this will take more time to break and will hopefully gain more attention from neighbors.

Ah, big dogs are wonderful things.

Assertive neighbours are cool too! :)

Sounds like chaining to something is the thing to do from now on. I guess there's no chance of siting a ground anchor out there? Lampost's a good chioce though.

or failing that get a Almax chaiun and padlock combo and then you have yourself a chain that cant be sawed, frozen, smashed or cropped. the only way to cut it is with an angle grinder and lets face it if your neighbour can hear them lifting a bike he will definately hear them with an angle grinder

I think any dog chained to a bike would turn pretty nasty!
