uk biking - ideas of where to go

Help, I want to do a hardcore weekend of biking (well hardcore for me anyway)

Ideally I'd like to ride somewhere pretty on the saturday- can take up to 4 hours.

book into a hotel for the afternoon so sightsee/ walk - or if I get a really good deal, sit in a jacuzzi for the day

Then head back on the sunday - the long way round- up to 6 hours.

I live in yorkshire.... any one got any ideas??

P.s. times are for riding along a / minor road routes, not the motorway...

AR06 seems like a good idea, although not sure about the Jacuzzi. Save that for when you get home and fill it full of Radox

But you could go North through the Yorkshire Dales and end up in Penrith. Is it Treetops up there who have a health spa

Lake District maybe? :?

'Bike' came over the weekend, together with a book of 45 recommended bike routes in Britain.

Includes what to see, places to stop and eat/drink, where the speed cameras are etc

Jobs a good 'un.

I quite like the idea of arranging with a hotel to have your clothes and kit couriered to them for your attention. Having a long friday ride down, a couple of days in a good hotel with local ride outs, pack your stuff on the sunday evening and arrange for it to be couriered back. and a long interesting ride back on the Monday. Courier costs should be about £15 and make the rides much easier than carrying minimal kit.

It allows you to be more comfortable in the hotel, over dinner whatever. Also nice to dismiss the image that bikers are hairy arsed uncouth individuals.

I have thought about Cornwall or the Highlands.

if only you had posted this on thursday last week jenni.

just done a RTT weekend with the TDM owners club , i organised a weekend touring the lakes and north yorks moors. although most of us camped or used bunkhouses. you would have been welcome

sat was a tour of every lake ( yup every one except coniston) and 5 of the lakes passes.

sunday was all over the north yorks moors like a rash.

monday was sightseeing and making sure we caught coniston

:(

i've been rubbish this year with rideouts missed north/ south and missing ar06 too, next year - definatly

tbh tho it's gonna be a romantic ride if ya know what i mean

have been look at hotels and it seems that the cheapest 4* are in th middlands - i should be able to find some really good roads to get there too. not amazing pretty but it'll do.

just out of interest...has anyone had any bad experiences with hotels not liking bikers?
