Battery problem / Alternator problem?

Hi everyone.

I have search the site for "battery problem" to see if anyone have had the same problem, but i couldn't find an answere.

Spiderman seems to have had some battery problem refering to this

But my battery isn't that old.
I got it at the end of 2005 and it has worked really well, but now all of a sudden it started discharging, and it wont charge.

I have to jump start it using my mates bike so i get it going, and it might start on my way home from work, but it's allways a chance.

Anyone have any sugestions?
This just started quite recently and i thought i'd ask before i take it in to the shop for a look over.

Last service was done by barrington smith a few months ago (who i now understand has left the country). So it's not long ago it had a service.

You need to check it as per the posts on here (Sid Squid)using an electrical tester. That way you find out if it is your alternator, your reg rectifier or your battery that is faulty. If you hav'nt got one take it to someone who has,or you will be chasing yout tail looking for the cause.

I will see if i can find someone who has an electrical tester.

Cheers!

I charged my dodgy battery for 2 hours which charged it, then left it overnight and it wouldn't work the next day. Then measured accross the terminals and found a higher charge (14.5v as opposed to 12-13v) when the bike was running. To me this suggested crap battery but working ok alternator/reg/rec. I changed the battery and all is ok so far. Try something along those lines.
