Restricted SV1000S - question

Afternoon,

well I've just a fraction under a year to mosey through as a near middle aged restricted rider (Note: different laws here in Ireland, restricted for first two years no matter what age you are)
Anyway I've just seen an '03 SV1000S with light cosmetic damage for a really rather tempting price and I want to know if this would be a dog restricted or not. Also is this a bike that can be restricted by work on the bikes' CPU? Thanks.

According to the Suzuki website it isn't available as a restricted version, so that would imply there is no restricted ECU to fit.
That doesn't mean it can't be done in other ways, though.

the general experience of restricting V-twins (650) seems to indicate that it has less of an impact than restricting IL4's, so if this is anything to go by, the thou should be no problem

im sure ive seen a restricted SV1000, it wasnt done via ecu just two big washers in the TB inlets to restrict the airflow

My mates, the 06 plate you saw at AR06, ran terribly til I took the restrictors out, which were washers (I believe Marshall saw them). Backfiring at idle, revved out at 5k, 95mph top speed. Terrible thing, he was gutted lol. He bought me a few drinks though lol.

What is this "restriction"? It sounds barbaric.

Restricted to 33bhp if you are a learner (it's a little more complicated than that but you don't need to know)

Actually, and being pedantic, you can't ride a 33bhp bike as a learner unless you are over 21 years old, under instruction and in radio contact with the instructor.....

Unless you are over 21 years old and passed your test via Direct Access, you are restricted to 33bhp (or less) bikes for two years after passing your test. There some other gubbins about being under 21 years old as well.............

i need to say this,

its also a legal requirment if ur license states,

removing the restriction early invalidiates ur insurance, and u will be in trouble if u get caught.

its a big no no and i know the general consensious on here is its frowned upon.
