have i been ripped off?
hi,
i took my sv in for it's 4000 mile service today. explained that there was a problem with it snapping back into neutral when chainging from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd. went back to collect it, they said they tried the bike out and didn't get any problems so really all they've probably done is check the bike over, changed the oil and he said he'd tightened the shocks coz they were abit "damp". i got charged £150 and my fella seems to think it's abit expensive considering the same place charged me £95 for a service and a brake pad change on my rv125. What do you think? p.s. yes i know i should learn to do the services myself but i didn't so..... |
my 4000 mile service (Robinsons in Canterbury) cost me £98 (of that about £65 was labour) that was for oil & filter change but plugs weren't changed so your service does seem steep.

I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu with this post!
|
£150 is a little steep. I think the norm is around £120 in places around London. You'd also expect to pay a little more for servicing a 650 compared to a 125.
I'm a bit confused when you say the tightened the "shocks" because they were "damp". Did they adjust the front forks or rear spring? Something else? Either they were speaking complete gibberish or you've mishead/misunderstood something. |
£150 does seem a bit steep. I paid £75 for my 4k service but i'm in manchester, you don't say where your from. You'll obviously pay more the nearer you get to london.

It's expensive, but not horrendously...
|
Oil@£20, Filter@£9.00, Labour@1hr = 4000 service - that's all they'll do. I know...
So on that basis you were charged £120 hr labour - not good. You've been done. |
That "damp" thing sounds a bit dodgy, and 2 mins with a torque wrench gonna cost nothing. Go back and ask for some better information, they might be trying to be cheeky
|
And people wonder why I say bugger the warranty and do it myself!
£24 for oil that does 1.75 services. £5 for a filter and 20 minutes of my time. (that was my 11,000 mile service cost!) |
I had my 4000 mile service done on Monday ( Stamford Superbikes did it ) and they charged 130 quid.
A little excessive, but not as bad as 420 quid for my cars clutch on tuesday  They know they have you by the balls whilst its still under warranty |
