contact lenses
i currently purchase my contact lenses from specsavers, but, can anyone recommend a good reliable internet site that will supply at a good price..
i currently use daily torics and pay £39 for 30 pairs thanx |
Try Tesco Opticians, you can do it online, or over the phone, you just need your prescription to set up your "account", then you can do it automatically once it's all set up.
I pay £19.80 for a months worth of Focus Dailies (I should use torics). It's worth a looksie :) |
Hi,
I went this route (buying online) myself a while ago. You can get some very cheap deals via the internet... I used this lot: http://www.contactlenses.co.uk/index.php BUT You really need to have you eyes checked regularly... and therein lies the problem. An optician will usually charge you for a checkup if you don't but you lenses from 'em. (this cost usually offsets the savings) This coupled with the fact that you have get the contact lens prescription from them (which they have to provide... but don't seem to like doing!) has put me off. Just because of the hassle factor. Anyway, I now get mine from Boots. It seems like the big boys are now realising they are losing customers to the online suppliers and becoming more competitve. I wear monthly disposables, and it costs me £6.00 a month, which includes a yearly checkup and delivery to my door. Worth a look anyway... Good luck! |
Went to Boots for a trial on contacts over the cooler months, started cheap but the price went waaaay up as i tried the comfort level of diff types.
Finally settled for 1 day acuvue moist lenses right up till they said £56 a MONTH!!! Ok they cost about £36 when i last looked online. Colin PS I cant even wear em in the summer :( haysever meds preclude the lenses :( but on the upside, when its foggy in the autumn/winter i will finally be able to flip up the visor and see :) |
I use everyday 30's at 15.50 a month from specsavers... leave them in for 30days and nights... its great. I even have the high oxygen ones else my eyes starve. No problems. :D

I got a pretty good package from Dolland and Atchison, can't recall exactly what it is, it's around £8 for 15 dailies (I don't wear them often so I'm on a half order). But, the discount that i get for being on Contact Lenses By Post on my glasses basically paid for a year's supply! They're not flash but neither are they rubbish.
One thing... I was previously on monthlies with a toric in one eye... I've now switched to dailies with no toric. Both opticians I saw were extremely scathing of daily torics, saying that they've never seen anyone get consistent positioning with them- the toric isn't as stable as it is with monthlies and it ends up moving too much, apparently. So he basically said, have monthly torics or daily plains, don't spend money on daily torics. |

I have to admire you lot with the guts to wear contact lenses, just the thought of putting something onto my eye makes my stomach churn.
Part of me thinks what the heck, book in for laser treatment for my slight short sightedness ,and then I think what if it goes wrong. So I think for now I will stick to the bins. If I forget them it is no big deal. I just have to ride faster to get nearer to the signs  |
