replacing rear brake pedal?

first post...nice to meet y'all.

i searched and didn't find an answer, so can someone tell me how easy/difficult it is to replace a rear brake pedal? assuming i can even find one (without buying a whole rearset), is it easy to do? the pedal portion broke off somehow and i need to replace it. it looks easy, but it might be harder than i expect...any thoughts?

it's a 2002.

thanks in advance!

you can buy these from the dealer can't you?

Easy:-
remove clevis pin from brake master cylinder, connects to brake pedal.
remove brake light switch.
remove foot rest hanger, two hex head machine screws.
ndo large hex headed bolt from rear of footrest hanger,
remove brake pedal.
don't forget there is a bush inside the bearing surface of the pedal it would be best to replace thiws as well.

thanks for the tip john...i'm not exactly sure how to do it, but it seems easy enought.

couple of questions...

- do i need any special tools? hex wrenches and regular wrenches should suffice, right?
- the clevis pin is the same thing as a cotter pin? i imagine i replace it with a new one, right?
- i'm not sure what a "bush" is inside the bearing surface...if i need to replace this, where would i get one?

sorry for the dumb questions...i'm fairly new to working on my bike and don't know all the terminology yet. thanks again.

I've changed the foot pegs without dismantling the the brakes in any way. Admittedly this makes things a little more tricky but it can be done this way.

Also do not forget to re-connect the two springs before putting the two hex bolts back in.

Just to add; this bolt is made of cheese and is threadlocked - go very easy with it - it'll round out as soon as you look at it unless your Allen key is a perfect fit.

I don't think this is available seperately, a new lever will have one of course, if the lever you obtain is S/H it may be worth a look to see if the bush in your existing lever is in better condition, if so explore the possibilty of a swop over.

And also exposed, and very rarely used (well, I change levers more than most  but often it'll go untouched for years. How to make an easy job a fiddle...
