05 gsxr shock
I may be able to get the rear shock off of a '05 gsxr 600 and I was wondering if it would fit a 1999 sv650. I know that the shock is way better than mine and I can get it fairly cheap. Mine has over 30000 miles on the stock shock. Thanks!
By the way, this is my first time here and this is an awesome site. |
I could also get a 2005 gsxr 1000 shock, is that's any better. If there is a shock that you could recommend that I could get off ebay for not too much, that would be much appreciated. I am only 17 and my parents wont buy it for me, so possibly something cheap?

That'll be too short for that model mate and also too softly sprung. If you can get hold of one, you'd be better off with a ZX10R or ZX636 shock ('05 onwards ideally for the 636).

Okay, I'll check into those thanks. If I get one of these, will I have to modify or change anything in order to fit it in?

Do a search on shocks and suspension on this forum there's an awful lot of information here, Some people seem to state that the ZX6R shocks were too stiff for a lot of riders, so see what you can find with the search function.

The 1000 is supposed to be a better match in terms of the bike weight. Looks like there is only a 0.5mm difference in length too.
Check out this thread for details of lengths and spring rates http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=41702 Not sure how much the length has to be out for it to be considered "too short" though |
An 05 shock won't fit a curvey.

I'm going to get an '04 zx10r shock. I managed to find one on ebay for cheap and now i am just waiting for it to be over. Is there anything that I have to do in order to make it fit when I get it? I think that the underside plastic will get in the way from the look of it.
