Crash advice
 

Dear All,

On Monday night I did some low speed tar surfing with my V reg curvy blue SV650S :oops: :(

Good news:
* I'm OK, apart from some strained muscles and technicolor bruises (Thanks Hein Gericke for literally saving my skin)
* The frame, tank, electrics, suspension and engine appear to be undamaged - I rode about 40 miles further to get home (at motorway speeds) and everything was cool.

Bad news...
* Leathers and boots scuffed - might replace
* Helmet scratched - needs replacing
* Upper and lower fairings scratched on right hand side - needs replacing
* Small scratch on rhs lower fork
* Small scratch on front wheel
* Rhs handlebar end badly ground away - needs replacing
* Rhs front indicator snapped clean off - needs replacing
* Back brake lever snapped off - needs replacing
* Exhaust scratched

... but wait, it gets worse, due to a c0ck up with my direct debit, the insurance policy lapsed, and they didn't tell me about it :evil:

I will be going after the insurance company to try get some money out of them but I'm not holding my breath.

So my question to you is...
* Is it worthwhile fixing the damage if I pay for it myself?
* Do I try sell the bike as is (ideal for a naked conversion project)?
* Do I break the bike and sell off the bits?

Crash bungs wouldn't have helped as my surfing involved a kerb...

but yes, I will fit them on the repaired/next bike.

I'm concerned that if I fix everyting, the repair costs will run into the hundreds of pounds... isn't it better to cut my losses and save up for another bike?

Don't claim on your insurance.Assuming the crash involved you only don't tell them anything as your future policies will be heavily loaded and you will lose any no claims bonus you have.As for the bike,fix it yourself as it seems to be all cosmetic.

I agree, dont bother telling insurance. As long as the bike is still ridable then just slowly get the peices you need from ebay & if you can do without then save the money. Well thats what i do.

Fix it yourself...i did when i had my off and parts came to 550 but that got me all new plastics and my insurance will still be nice and low

yep fix it, I did it a few years ago, don`t need to do it all at once, and pick up bits from breakers etc.

Melt it down and make a nice ash tray for your coffee table. :wink: HTH.

do an ebay repair yourself, shouldt cost you much, ebay are much cheaper than breakers yards generally, and you will be suprised.
