name that pipe??
ok got home this morning after a short ride out, decided to give the sv a clean before i put it away and i noticed this rubber pipe with what seems to be a piece of plastic stuck in the end to block it. this is strange to me as this piece of plastic seems to have been cut with a hacksaw. i have provided a couple of pics.
this seems odd to have a pipe the goes to nothing. any one know what this pipe is for and if it should be blocked like this or not?????? :? http://upload4.postimage.org/728025/Copy1ofImage004.jpg http://upload4.postimage.org/728052/Image003.jpg |
oh yeah its a "99 curvy" 650s

Is it the over flow from your radiator that goes from the top of your rad to the expansion chamber :?:
|
i take it its not ment to be like that then??? :(
|
No it looks like some one has blocked it up!!!! Have you had a look at your bike to see if it is the pipe from your rad?
|
Can't tell for sure, but I think you might find that leads back up to the front carb, and has been fitted there to make for easy carb balancing.
There's no part on the bike that should look like that as standard, but it's maybe not a worry. Trace it back and find out where it goes- there's too many things it could be to say for sure, it might be a problem or it might be nothing. |
I concur with Northwind.
It looks like someone has been balancing the carbs and found what a pig it is to do, so left the pipe there for future use. |
ok have checked where this pipe leads and northwind was right it comes from the front carb, is this pipe ment to be blocked this way though?
|
Yup- ask Carelesschucka about that, if it's not blocked you get a vacuum leak and the carbs stop working properly. Basically, to balance the carbs you measure the relative strength of the vacuum at each carb, and adjust them till they're the same. Without that wee hose, it's a sod to do as you need to attach the hose to an inaccessible nipple (fnarr) on the front of the carb. But you can leave a line in place like this, and just uncork it and attach the gauges when you want to. Makes it miles easier.
