HELP - Im in the middle of syncing my carbs....
 

...and can't seem to grasp it. I've plugged one gauge into the front carb off the nipple and plugged the second gauge into the take off on the back of the rear carb. When starting the bike the needles on both gauges just bounce around big time, fluttering over quite a few graduations on the gauge. According to the instructions that came with the gauges the needles should move but only very slightly.

What am i doing wrong ???? Or does this suggest something really bad with my bike ??

There should be a valve on each gauge/line to help reduce the amplitude of the needles so you can get a good reading.

Even with the in-line restrictors, there will be a lot of movement, but it should really steady out as the revs rise toward 3000.

Just in case there is any doubt, the fuel injection throttle bodies need synchronising just the same as the carbs do...

Yeah, and it can make a massive difference to the throttle responce!

Someone on here (Sid?) told me that if it's running lean the needles bounce more. Pretty sure he was right. Decent gauges make a hell of a difference.

Not sure about that, it will depend on the gaugs I guess, the ones I've got have the screw adjusters for sensitivity and I can move it between "totally fixed regardless of revs" and "Bouncing all over the bottom 1/3 of the gauge" somewhere in between works best I've found :lol:

I've got Davida gauges, which I'd recommend to anyone. Not tried Morgan Carbtune but a lot of people like them so they can't all be wrong. Also tried the cheapass ones wiht the multi-coloured dials, they had screw restrictors to damp the needles, but even though they were half the price of the Davida ones they were about a tenth of the use.
