Tankslapper!
 

Had my first one today. Just coming off quite a tight bend the road climbed quite steeply. Bars had a little shake but it soon stopped. Nothing much to worry about i just didnt realise that it happened on the 650? I always thought it was a more common trait with the the thou

Little shake isn't a tankslapper ;) Very rarely heard of the real thing on an SV. I'ev done it, because I'd cunningly used my adjustable suspension to sabotage my own bike...

Isn't a tank slapper a violent full lock to full lock created under hard acceleration? Northy how did you get out of yours?

It turned out that freezing in terror was the right thing to do :) No joke, I didn't do anything, just looked ahead, saw I wasn't about to hit anything, and let it get on with it till it sorted itself out. I'm pretty sure if it had got any worse I'd have binned it, but once the rear end untied itself it all settled out, and I rode the rest of the way home at 20mph.

I had one once.I solved the problem by parking the bike in a nearby field and myself in a slightly different field. :oops:

A common think that will happen as a side affect of a proper tank slapper is that the front brakes will not work imediatly afterwards, they need to be pumped a couple of times before resistance is felt again. Does not always happen though.

my sv does this alot coming out of fast sweeping bends 80,90 plus and opening the throttle hard, i put it down to budget suspention and the road surface.

if you get a propa slapper(lock to lock) you will **** yourself guaranteed.

Good definition of one there.... BAsically the front wheel will shake from side to side and normally in a bad one it will make the bars hit the tank (tradionally) and therefor it is damaging to both the bars the tanka dn has been known to crack the bar stopper things
