whats the craic with these GIXXER shocks

i dont understand why people are selling gixxer shox..are they a modification for the sv to improve handling or for heavier people like me

Different types of Gixxer shocks fit the SV's, yes they are a improvement, although anything on the stock is. Not that it is terrible, but it is worthwhile improvement for handling etc.

Yes they are better if you are on the larger side (like me).

Having a gixxer shock and ohlins springs (in the front) on mine made a fantastic difference. But all down to personal preference really. Also it can be quite a cheap mod.

And if you're closer to 9 stone than 18?

Dunno, but I have a spare one in my garage.

oh. i understand now, sounds like a sensible mod to do being that i am on the larger side of life (and clothes sizes)

What Sv do you have Craig?

The 00-02 Curvy SV can take the SRAD750 shock with a bit of modding, but the spring is softer than the SV stock one. So not gonna do you much good. Similar shaped ZX6R/10R shock is harder sprung and looks ideal if you're a little bit 'plump'. Lol! I have one of these, it's great.

Pointy SV owners use the newer K-series Gixer units, i think with few or no mods. Others on here will be able to shed light on suitablilty for weight.

Seeing as you spell 'craic' the right way, I'm guessing you're from north of the central belt?

I assumed he was from Ireland. Since we alone invented craic and all manner of other class words.

What about a 99SV? With an unmercifully skinny streak of misery riding it? (About 10stone max say.) What do can you bolt onto that?

Is there a table anywhere that you can just look up? I was looking for somethingin SVRider.org and here, not much on the 99 bikes it seems.
There are gixxer shocks coming up an the bay of fleas all the time... and i am never quite sure what would work, and be fairly handy to bolt on.

for me... even though i am light, the sv handling is scary. I have heeled it over in bends, and hit bumpies and had the whole thing go very awkward on me. Not confidence inducing.
Thats when its bad, when you are on those 50 mph sweeper bends, and you get some chatter, and ergh. I dont like. You can get it through the corner, but your lines are all screwed up. And, i ease up on the throttle, the bike gets a bit airy, and it all just isnt great.

For me... getting the handling sorted is my top priority. Now i just have to find some money :)
