Bleeding made easy

No! I have not dropped my SV on my foot - Sorry! 8)

I've just bled a friends brakes, and although there was no more air coming out I'm still not happy with the result. I left the bike with the brake lever tied back, and I hope that has helped.

What got me was just how fiddly the job is - and that was with two of us.
What does the Sv massive use when bleeding brakes and would you buy it again?
This would really help as my back and knees are shot!

Cheers all!

bleeding (if done properly) takes less than 5 mins for both calipers

Top up fluid to max mark.

Get your friend to sit on the bike

You will look after the bleed nipple.

Now Open nipple , tell your friend to pull the lever slowly in.
(not fast & pumping like a young lad making a romance in a girl for the first time!!!)

close the nipple

tell your friend to release the lever

open nipple

friend slowly pulls lever

close nipple

friend releases lever

do that until you are happy.

then start on the other caliper.

I hope this helps

Bleeding brakes is like making love to a beautiful lady........ :P

Cheers Patrick - Yep, that's the way I did it, nice and slow! Think I might give it another go tomorrow

But what about my back and knees?

the other trick i learnt was to bleed the master cylinder by doing the same but instead of the nipple use the banjo, it worked for me and made the massive difference. :D

Have you got really short arms!?

I find it is simpler to do it by yourself because it's easier to co-ordinate your right and left hands than it is for you and someone else!

Apart from that, I do the same except tap the calipers and lines occasionally to dislodge any air bubbles

Remove resevoir cap, top up fluid to max. Open beed nipple on cailper. Fluid will flow down the line, into the caliper and the air will be pushed out, top up fluid as needed. No fuss. No effort.

Does that actually work? Never heard that one before...

I use a big syringe- Empty system, push new fluid in from the caliper ends. Then, squeeze it back through from the lever and repeat till there's no more air. Dead easy, even easier than using a Mityvac or whatever.

I'm a mityvac man, me.

(duck and run.................. :smt071 )

Same as me but I don't put new fluid in from the caliper side. I keep the resivor topped up and suck the fluid out the nipple. Works a treat (unless you have a leakey nipple).

Got a set of syringes from ebay for about a fiver, bargin! Linkey...

But if your really tight get a clear plastic tube attach it to the nipple and suck. But remember folks don't swollow. And yes this does work me and a mate did it on a VFR750.

To get thoes stubborn air bubles out you can also push the pistons back in the caliper and bleed them.
