Taller Profile Tyres....120/70
Recently got the bike sorted out at Steve Jordans' (Top Stuff, I must add  ). Anyway (in the three hours that was spent sorting out my knackered bike) a new tyre was put on, although Steve suggested and put on a taller profile tyre i.e 120/70 rather than the 120/60. All I can say is that it feels great, another worthwile mod for the SV's front end.
Anyone else done this?? Opinions? Cheers, B |
dont you mean a taller tyre? 120/70 opposed to the normal 120/60.

Yes... :?

Well... It raises the front, which in turn changes the bike's geometry and slows the steering. But it does change the contact patch on the tyre, all other things being equal a 120/70 will put more rubber on the road when leaned than a 120/60. All other things never are equal, mind ;)
You can get a steeper profile on the new tyre- if you switched to a "pointy" tyre from a "flat" tyre, it'd possibly turn in faster to compensate. But most people lower the front to compensate. |
It just feels like you are more planted to the road, gives you a bit more feel and when hitting a corner and lean it over it stills feels planted.
Not technical stuff mentioned above just that it feels safer! Haven't noticed that the bike is any slower into corners etc. |
The only thing I would say is new rubber replacing old almost always feels miles better you'd really need the 2 fresh tyres back to back to do a fair comparison. That said the boots on the Kwak are up for replacement and as it takes a 65 profile front, I've been running a 60 for 11,000 miles, was thinking of going to a 70 so will watch this thread :D

Hmm, I wasn't sure a 70 would fit with the extenda fenda. If someone has this combo, let everyone know.

Cheers Bobit69, the original 60 profile front tyre really is a case of trend over function...
