Ways to scare the ANPR guys...
Just thought I'd post this as it made me giggle on my commute to the office.
On my way in, on a very slow section of road (ride above 30mph and you've no chance of staying on the bike - 3 180 degree bends all very close), I was just approaching the bends, and what do I see? An ANPR van driving the other way.
Just to see what they'd do, out of curiosity, I gave a curtosey nod to the driver. Should of seen his face  I don't think they usually get this reaction from bikers!
This has now started me off on a new theory... If I nod/wave at police in a "mark of respect for the job they're doing" maybe, just maybe, it'll get into their subconcious that I'm an alert & sensible rider, and the next time they see me, maybe, possibly, they might think "Oh, that guys OK, no point in pulling him, he always rides properly."
It's got to be worth a try, as all it costs me is a little movement of the head. Also, should any of them have a grudge against people being nice to them, and think that I'm "up to something," I can fall back on the "I was just being polite officer, chances are at some time I'm going to come off the bike, and someone like you could be coming out to attend". :D
Might not work, but the look of the drivers face alone this morning will make it worth while if nothing else.
