Winter bike suggestions
 

I am looking at getting a very cheap bike for this winter for commuting - The distance I travel is minimal (I can walk it in 45 minutes) so would look at a 125cc.

Any suggestions of what kinda bike I should look at - I have no experience of 125s at all. I've had a look on ebay at some chinese imports, as they are very cheap indeed. So cheap in some cases it almost looks a bit dodgy!

Any help/advise would be appreciated - i'm looking to speand as little as possible, but on a fairly newish machine that will require little or no work/maintenance for a while.

I've got a CG125-BR sat in my back garden, engine is ceased due to it dropping it's oil on my commute home, but still. I've been looking for an excuse to get shot of it, and been shopping around for engines to put in & sell her on. Just haven't had the time.

She has some light damage on the front mud guard, and on the headlight. A couple of scuffs on the speedo. All due from my novice riding & grabbing too much front brake going into an off camber right bend :oops: Other than that, a little rust, but then, she was born in 1986.

Open to at least semi-sensible offers, as it's starting to turn into a playground for my kids (just hate the thought of it falling on 1 of them, so keep shouting at them for it). Pay for the fuel costs (3hours drive, should be no more than £40) & I'll deliver her as well.

I guess this should go in the stuff for sale section, but never really considered it until I saw this thread lol. Should you not want the project, offer extends to anyone else who might. I can also provide photos as well if required.

Other than that, either a new CG or a GN to resolve your winter worries. :)

Edit: just seen your last statement, so all of the above is pretty much pointless lol. :oops: *starts writing lines... "Must read posts properly..."*

I use a DR350 as my winter bike.
Impossible to damage or corrode, and still fun in wet / cold / snow

Dr Rich posted a great picture of a 125 - search for that.

If you want cheap I'd go for something a bit bigger like a 250--350 bike.These are not eligable for learners but too small for most full license holders so no one wants them.Either that or get a dog of a scooter.

look for an old 400, stay clear of 2 strokes for winter bike, i had so many close calls and it was hard work in winter on my rs125. Plus it needs alot of maintanence and warming up for good 5-10 mins every time you use it. a nice 4 stroke would have been a god sent then, so thats why i got my sv and just waiting for my test, plus it sounds better as 2 strokes generally sound like hair dryers.
