Gixxer front end

OK, so I've had a butchers through the search and can't find the answer I'm after.

I've got a curvey with an '01 gix6 front end. Due to the other modding I have done I've been having issues with the front end height and clearance.

I've since found one of my seals has gone, so the starter for 10 is

'are there any other forks that can be used with the '01 600 yolks, wheel and clipons that will give me a bit of extra height?'

I can't drop the forks through the yolks any more, just trying to decide to swap completely, or change springs/oil and seals.

Pop an email off to TWF (Twin Works Factory), i am sure i saw a mod that they did to extend the forks a little.

Cheers, TWF. Totally forgot about Zoran.

For anyone else, he told be all Gixxer forks are the same length, but they can be lengthened internally by 10mm.

Guess, I'll have to get the new oil and springs in, me being a fat fecker and all  and see how that goes first.

mabye you are heavy for the forks and getting them reworked for your height and the sv would work wonders for clearance and make the whole thing work a bit better?

When you say clearance... Ground clearance when leaned, or mudguard/wheel clearance?

Racetech do a lengthening kit for those forks, I'm sure. But as they're the same length as mine, and I've got no clearance issues, I'm wondering exactly where the problem lies.

At the moment it is radiator clearence, I managed to total the radiator, but since found out the springs are way undersprung and the leaking seal. I'm going to get the correct weight springs and oil in first and get the seal sorted, it sounds like that should sort it. But it was a case of do I thow 100 quid at it now? Or buy longer forks.

I know it seems odd for a clearence issue, but check my sig and all will be revealed.

Ah. I remember you- you're the nutcase  But even with respringing, you want to keep as much suspension travel as you can- shortening the travel's not the best way out of this I think, just the simplest way. Any prospect of relocating the radiator, or using 2 smaller ones?

BoltonSte 30-08-06 02:30 PM

Yup, you got me

I'm hoping the re-spring will help a lot, based on my weight I need ~20% increase over the stock springs, and I don't know how much oil had gone. So it may not even be an issue. (I've pulled the bottom of the rad back towards the engine as far as possible but I've not really ridden it yet)

If I can I'll keep the rad where it is, unless I continue having problems, then I'll be visiting the scrap yard.

I don't want to just shorten the travel, unless it is a short term fix.

Like I was saying, it was just an idea to swap for longer forks, with similar travel, which would let me raise the nose a bit before I bought the springs I need.

Will just have to see how it goes. Just need to get it delivered fron the boat.
