SV GSXR Fork Swap - Keep Stock GSXR Damper?
 

Is there a way to use the stock steering damper that is attached to the forks on the GSXR1000 front end when using it in a front end swap on a 2004 SV650S?

I saw one guy on here used the horn bracket to mount it under the (i guess it was the steering head, couldn't see clearly). Is this the appropriate place to mount? I guess I could get a bracket or something from Lowes if it is.

Sorry for so many questions, but I have to do the whole swap in one weekend (the 15th - the bike is at the in-laws) or wait until the next time I go down there to finish the job. I'm trying to work out all the kinks I can before crunch time.

Look on SVrider as there is a diffrent way to mount it more securely on the pointy bikes.

Here is a pic of a bracket i made. Just used a bit of scrap that was thick enough to do the job.

That looks nice. Well done. That is mounted to the fairing stay with stock holes? Or did you have to drill the stay?

Throw the damper in the bin, if you have to have one buy an aftermarket one, theyre too stiff for a bike that needs one let alone an SV.

It uses the original holes and mounting bolts for the fairing stay.

As Robw says, an aftermarket damper will be far superior and has adjustment.

I only fitted one as the combination of the shorter GSXR forks and me using the 60 profile SV tyre (for the time being) = the worst tank slapper i have ever had on a bike.

I found my GSXR damper was far too soft and had to change the oil in it (maybe due to it already being a few years old).
