Next Service - North London

Hi all, I normally use Chas Bikes at Blackfriers, but Lazer in Camden are much nearer. Anyone use them? Any good? Or anyone else in the area that you can recomend?

Cheers.

Can't answer your question, but it's cheaper and better to do what you can yourself.Oil and filter changes and general minor adjustments are easy and they charge you loads for doing it.Plug changes are no problem with the oe spanner and even checking the valve clearances is ok providing they come up within tolerancewhich they usually do.Have a go and you will save the cost of any tools you buy the first time you do it. yourself.

Oil and filter maybe, don't know what a valve clearance is  - seemed to have messed up a battery change though!

Anyone know Lazer in Camden?

Cheers.

Sorry don't know 'em.

All I will say is do the oil/filter and plugs yourself and save a bucket on labour costs. What mileage is your bike at? Valve clearances (or shims) can be tricky and you need to have the correct tools to do it (micrometer?). Also I would try to get someone to show you how to do it as it is quite fiddly (for the beginner like me at least).

I was going to take my bike into a Honda dealership to get serviced, they wanted £250 to change plugs, oil and filter! I did it myself for the sum of £42 and a bit of swearing.

It's worth making a note that a good bike dealership will do more than just oil & filter, beaings get checked, dry parts get greased, cables get lubed, things get felt, tugged adjusted and listened to. These are all things you can do at home and I'm an advocate of home serviceing but when I started out I used to do the minor services myself and get the major's done at a dealership to cover the above.
