Security chain advice (length)
 

Hello folks,

Just after a bit of advice regarding the purchasing of an Almax chain.

Which length would be best?

Basically I have nothing to lock the bike too and would like to end up with as little slack on the ground as possible.

Also, should the chain be through the back wheel? front wheel? frame (if so, how)?

if your not going to be chaining the bike to anything, i wouldnt bother with an almax, as the bike will be lifted.

1ve got a 1.5 meter, and its fine for putting through a ground anchor and my wheel, but the safest thing to do is to loop it through the frame and keep it off the ground.

try to chain it to somthing, you can get anchors that fix in the ground

keep the chain off the ground, as you need to pivot hydraulic croppers on the ground to get a decent crop.

also, you can attack the chain with a hammer or a chisel when its on the ground.

The plan is to get a ground anchor as well, but still would like to leave as little slack on the ground as possible.

I have a 1.5m chain which is long enough to go throught the rear wheel and over seat.

When locked there's a very little slack but it's not tight enough to damage the seat/bodywork.

Only done when out and about; use ground anchor in the garage.

If your going for ALMAX IV Series, the 1.0 metre long version doesn't go very far at all!!

Once you loop it you'll realise that there is much room!

I know, I bought a metre - going by the length of my old chain. When it arrived there was probably just enough space to put the back wheel and maybe my hand through the loop!

Oh, and don't even think about putting it under the seat when you ride - it won't fit!!

Unless you're going to chain it to something, you may as well just use a disc lock.

I've got a 1.5 metre long chain and that's long enough to chain my back wheel to things and it fits under my seat, so I actually take it with me.
