CCTV @ Home
Hey people,
does any1 have CCTV at their home? Any suggestions if you do? I think I know what I am after:) 3 cameras and recording 24x7.....maybe being able to view the house from the web Cheers |
Not yet. Will probably go for wireless IP cams and setup a webserver or something.
Will ensure it is all encrypted so that clever burglars can't see in my house! Not sure what make of cams yet though, not given it too much thought. |
Any decent webcam will do it, wireless is good.
I havean old webcam plus some networked webcams (I have a LAN and WAN at home) they are Axis 205 camera's. Decent software from these guys! http://www.icode.co.uk/icatcher/index.html Its Ace and caught on camera the toe rags that tried to nick the bike, not had a problem since. Whole heartedly recommend them! Hope that helps Rich |
An X10 network is where i would look. Uses your homes power circuit to communicate and record to your PC as well as home automation.

I have a hard drive recorder with quad inputs, motion detection, rs232 remote control (I wrote that bit) and use ebay dome cameras under the eaves.
The recorder is about £200 + hard drive, cameras about £30 each. It is possible to get a stand alone box to put the video onto the web, or dedicate a pc to it. I have a friend who has bought a 4 input video surveillance card for his pc, but so far he's not managed to get it to work. |
Cheers guys I'll start looking

I use http://www.zoneminder.com/
I have a camera overlooking front door, second looking down drive and a third in the gazebo keeping an eye on the kids misbehaviour. Miniture camera with IR in the front porch, large obvious camera with IR above the garage looking down the drive, and an equally obvious IP camera in the gazebo. The two non IP cameras are connected to modulators so that we can pick them up on the household TVs as well as into the cards on my always on Linux server. The only thing I have never got round to bothering with it to enable Internet viewing as I don't really have the capacity to stream the video. My kids and their friends use the gazebo for gathering under cover for drinks, crumbly comestibles and hanky panky. Installing the camera at least means that a modicum of decency in now maintained at the back of the garden and there is always the threat that I will stream it and make my fortune selling home made porn. |
Ok I think I have found the system I'm going for.
PC Based with 3 Cameras Wired Coloured and Night Vision. There is also now a USBtoCamera thingy so you don't have to get a PCI DVR Card:) I now have to put together a PC with USB2.....god knows what I have in the loft:) |
have a look at Camea.co.uk
