installing full system - advise
 

Does someone have experience with removing an full exaust system on his SV? Are there any difficulties I should expect, such as removing rear shock or something like that...

And what about the bolts of the front cylinder. Mine have seen a lot of durt and rain the past years, so they are quiet rusty. I expect they wll not come of very easy. Is there any trick involved in removing those nasty bolts without damaging the heads?

Firstly how long has the original been on and do you ride all weathers?

The longer it's been on the harder it will be.

I got almost all of the system off without too much trouble apart from the mounting under the engine near the side stand (the bolt was spinning freely but wouldn't come out so had to take a hacksaw to it).

The big problem was the rear header bolts as they were siezed much more than the front ones and access is laughable. I eventually gave up and got it done at the garage. He had to remove the shock and swingarm so he could get a blowtorch on the bolts to un-sieze them.

Needless to say my new system is staying on.

I managed to remove the stock system from my pointy with out too much bother. The rear header bolts are a pain to access, you seem to need just the right combination of extensions and universal joint thingies to get to them, but it's possible. My gut instinct is to spray the bolts liberally with WD40, and leave it to soak in, then spray again and leave to soak, then finally attempt to remove them. It's not too hard IMO, if I can do it, it's really not that hard :D

Not all SV systems replace the wee stub of header on the rear cylinder. makes it miles easier to remove and fit if it doesn't.

Mine has something like 58000 km on it and the front bolts don't look that new anymore. :wink: I will do the "soaking with WD40" trick and see how it is going. Removing the swingarm looks like a lot of work, removing the rear shock and wheel should do it I think... let's hope :lol:
