Do I need to service the bike?
Hi all,
Just a quick question. I have had the SV650 for just over a year now (from new) and I was looking at the manual last night when I noticed that the service schedule says every 4000 miles or 12 months. The last service that the bike had was at 600 miles. It currently has 2650 or so miles. The question is - Do I need to get it serviced or not? Thanks in advance |
If it's new you'll need to keep it serviced to avoid invalidating your warranty.

moisture and acids from fuel combustion get into the oil and over time they corrode things from the inside
and engine that has mostly short trips it is more important to get the engine serviced, oil diesn't get as hot on short trips and doesn't vaporize and vent off the contaminates that get in the oil setting idle and not running much or for very far is the most severe service for an engine running an engine hard is better for the engine, liquid cooled engines especially, |
It's more important to do it after 4000 miles than after 12 months since the last service. I left mine about 18 months instead of the 12, and did it once the 4000 miles were gone. Oil is the biggest thing. I left the plugs as they're running fine, left the filter, then the rest just needs checking so that you're happy with it - throttle respinse, brakes, clutch. If it feels like it's not working like it should, take a look at it. And get the Haynes manual - makes it much easier to start fiddling!

You may need it for the warranty, I don't know how long Suzuki warranties are...
I would deffo change the oil and filter anyway. |
my 12 months come up before the 4000 miles, got it done at suzuki to keep the warranty up, after that I'll be doing it myself.
