Pillion Cherry popped!!!

Well, I did my first pillion. 20 miles of London filtering - south from Clapham to Morden (didn't see any elfs...oh, wait that's Mordor). Then from Clapham to Elephant & castle, Euston(!), Camden(!!), then Belsize Park.

What difference that makes to the bike. Passenger moves from left to right & the bike gets very twitchy. It's like steering a cow!

Congrats. It gets better each time. Hope you used protection

I did my first long run with a pillion last weekend. My brother is normally really good on the back of the bike but travelling down Scarborough seafront he decided to move all over the place then promplty sh@t himself when the bike started weaving and he realised it was his doing.

I've been really lucky with the quality of the pillions I've taken.

I remember the first one as I'd only been riding a little while. Didn't go very far (only from work to a dealers to pick up his bike) but I'd never met him before

It was a little nerve-wracking to see this 17.5stone, 6'4" hulk walk out of the door. Thankfully, Mogs is alive to tell the tale and still talks to me

Longest trip was about 80 miles to Abergavenny and back with a friend; she'd been pillion loads of times with other friends and was no bother at all.

Best without a doubt was Coolgirl on the AR06 rideout. Only wriggled about a little bit when we were stopped and I'm sure it helped that she's "one of us". I'm sure she was trying to get her knee down at one point

One thing I do know.......it gets easier every time and, if truth be known, I quite enjoy it. Makes me think though, and I do ride a bit slower, more carefully and I conciously try to ride a bit more smoothly, none of which are a bad thing.

um, I ended up braking quite hard as the extra weight meant I wasn't slowing down as much as I was used to! Pillion knocked into me & my soldier kept smacking the petrol tank. Oww!

and as for back seat riders:

"Go down the middle of those two lines", "turn right, no your other right", "Can we go a little faster", "arrghhhhh...stop", "You've just made that car driver hate you" nag, nag nag...etc etc etc. No reward is worth this.

light ladies are your best bet, fat friends are your worst.

Congrats on popping your cherry  .

Always set some rules down with the pillion especially if you are going to be taking directions from them. No unnecessary movement, leaning, tap on the right shoulder for right tap etc.

One thing though is how the heck Clapham to Morden was twenty miles. Did you get lost? :? :)

Cheers
Ben
