starting on the cold mornings!
well basically my bike is fine she will start good if i leave her in the garage here in bristol but last year when i stayed at the mrs house in cardiff i have to leave my bike outside with a cover n my bike got so cold she wouldn't start in the morning and the battery would die and i wouldn't be able to start her! lucky there was a huge hill so i could bump her !
BUT! this year shes living in central cardiff and there isn't a hill where she is so I'm getting worried about my bike starting when its really cold !!! i think there is something you put on the battery or soma ??? or what else could i do to stop this! i need to get into work and if i cant start her I'm stuffed! oh and im running high vission bulbs! ta |
sounds like the battery is on it's way out
you can get an Optimate or similar - these will monitor the state of the battery & apply a gentle charge if needed, but does need a 240v power supply, so not very easy if it's parked in the street A decent battery should be alright on it's own - just as long as you give it a decent run each day to make sure it is recharged, ie a bit more than just 5 mins down the road |
get a new girlfreind
|
well i dont think it is because it has never gave out on me in the summer or anyother time its just when its realy realy realy cold she wont start!!
i think Kawak has got one of them or some thing i cant find it on search !!! help i need to start the bike and its starting to get cold !! oh and she gets a good run every day !!! no matter the weather !!!!! |
Is it carb'd or fuel injected?

Do SV's have carb heaters? Maybe it's carb icing??? :?
|
hum maybe ! but ! then why would she start if i bumped her down the hill???!!??!
surely there is some fix that wil keep her running every morning no matter what the weather ???? |
It's the battery - I've had exactly the same problem in the past. Batteries are OK when it's reasonably warm, but once it gets a bit parky, they give up the ghost very quickly. I used to have to jump start my bike in the winter mornings, but had no problems in the evening after it had spent all day lurking in an underground car park - a rise of a few degrees was all that was needed
Get an Optimate, or a new battery |
Im a little worried now - I have just brought a 99 SV, which i'll start using in the winter (to get to university exams). Is it just a problem with the original battery, or do aftermarket batteries have the same problem?
