Front Brakes

Morning! Quick question people. I have a standard 2001 sv650s. Basically I am not too happy with my front brakes. Is there any other suzuki calipers that will bolt straight on, to give better performance. I will be upgrading the brake lines and pads.

Thanks :)

He's right you know, you can buy adaptor plates to fit GSXR 4 pots, but make sure that your brakes are working well and everything is moving freely before you go to such expense. Try different pads, and you may also find it's the soft front suspension holding you back rather than the calipers themselves, many people fit stiffer springs up front.

Yep, like they say. No point at all in putting GSXR calipers on an otherwise stock front end, IMO, since the stock brakes can already overwhelm the front. Get a set of decent pads, and keep the fluid fresh and the calipers maintained, and you ought to find the brakes aren't bad at all. Not great, like, but not bad. And improving the front would let you use the power you already have.

And thats with a 15 stone bloke on the bike.

Nothing wrong with the front brakes on an SV

Check your calipers and make sure they are as they should be(pistons, pads, discs etc). If all is as it should be, you have all the stopping you need. Mine are rubbish are the moment but I know why. I just need to use three fingers instead of the usaul two till I get it done. Even with stock pads/lines never had a problem with everything right.

Apart from the obvious caliper piston sticking, unbolt the calipers, take the pads out and have a look at the dust seals. The dust seals popping out is a good indication that the calipers could do with an an overhaul and you end up with something like this. Note that the pizza box is optional :)

Cheers
Ben

I have to admit, I have the aformentioned GSXR brake setup on my K3. It was never the plan to do it - just the necessary parts came along at very reasonable prices (I was only after some braided lines!!). All in all it cost me about 100 quid for the calipers, lines + adaptor plates. I'm very happy with them, though I'd have to hop back onto a stock bike to really feel the difference as I have got so used to these now.

Is worth noting though that I had modified the front suspension (stiffer springs, emulators + 20wt oil) before fitting the calipers, so as everyone has said, maybe look there first.

Thanks for that. Will inform my maintenance man (boyfriend!).

I've got two complete sets of SV calipers in pieces in my garage. Just waiting for a free afternoon to finish cleaning them all up and reassemble. I'll probably sell one set on once I'm done.
