Lightening standard wheels
 

Dymags are obviously extremly expensive but what in your opinion would be the benefit of have the centres of the rims ground out on my wheels to reduce the rotating mass at the edge of the wheel?

And would you consider it worth it?

Removing weight from the rim produces a better benefit as its the rim weight thats the most important part when it comes to lightweight wheels, gyroscopic effect and all that. Rims can be lightened safely and easily upto a point by removing a small skim from inside the centre of the rim - i think you will find a fair few superstock teams do this as they arent allowed to run lighter wheels!...its not 100% to the rules though!.

Lighter rims = less moving rotating mass and can help the bike to turn quicker. Worth it yes if your allowed to do so for your racing class as it doesnt cost much to have done or if you cant afford Dymags or so on..wont be anywhere near as light as Dymags but better than nowt :wink: :wink: :wink:

And before anyone says it....yes it is safe to do as long as you dont take too much off!

The trick will be knowing how much is too much :) But it's not like you'll be riding through potholes and over speedbumps much- unless you end up at East Fortune anyway.

well i would say that as you do have a set for sale - strange you mention that!..they are worth buying!

Now, out of curiosity, what flavour, what fitment?

A K5 front only thats done less than 1000 miles from the time the bike was bought brand new by a mate to the time i decided it was for sale and took the tyre off it to sell.

Includes disks which have had the same use and titanium bolts just to further aid the lightening process.

You mean these ones for sale?

Was tempted but not worth it on my road going bike I reckon.

Cant see they'll be too fragile for the road. there is still pleantly of meat left on the wheel itslf and the only meat that has been remover is from inside the bead so infact for stuff to hit the thinned out bit you would be looking at something that would rip right through the tyre.

I beleive the weight saviing including bolts was around the 400g mark with the majority of it around the rim ruducing the gyroscopic effect in the most aignificant area.

bear in mind how much wheels go for on ebay and ask yourself how much it would cost you to do the swap. that and the fact youd be getting a set of disks that have about 6000 miles less on em than the ones you have allready
