Another Dog Question
Hi people,
I'm a bit desperate for advise now as I'm starting to get reaaalllyyyy annoyed with Kasper. On Monday I woke up and had to drop the missus off at her place in the morning. So decided to feed Kasper leave him eat his food and by the time I'd be back I would walk him. So left the house and 10mins later I was back again. I found a nice "cake" on the floor of the kitchen next to his basket.......apparently he was eager and as soon as he finished his dinner he **** next to his basket. As soon as he saw me back in the house he went to his basket and left a nice big sea of wee!!!! In all this time I only asked him with raised voice "what's this you have done there". So now let him out in the garden so I can clean up and gave him a slap. Later on I left from 2pm to 3pm and behold!!! Came back and he decided to eat 2 loafs of bread that where on the kitchen worktop and **** again at the same spot. Walked in the kitchen in a mess and the newly delivered "cake"!!! This time I let him out in the garden, shout at him and slap him a couple of times. In the evening I through a trreat to him and he peed himself again. Up to now I have followed "experts" advise that this is due to enthusiasm and so I should ignore him when he first sees me..........and I did that. But he was becoming naughtier up to this now. At this stage and 3 days after this he continues to wee himself when a MALE speaks to him or gives him attention. PLEASE HELP or I might superglue his d*ck:) Thanks |
Training dogs is a black art TBH. House training shouldnt be too hard but sometimes is.
I got my English Springer at 5 weeks old (long story) and had him totally house trained within 3 days 8) about 1 month later he started leaving little deposits in our spare bedroom, always in the same spot. Get some of those puppy training pads and just leave one down, eventually he/she will stop, but dont give up and dont loose your temper! The only way to correct it fast is to catch it in the act and tell the dog off (BAD BOY!)as it's doing it, dont use lont sentences...they dont understand what saying. If you take the dog outside and then tell it off, it doesnt know what it's being told off for. If you cant catch the dog in the act it will take a while longer. When the dog has a wee or poo outside give it a treat and make a massive fuss of it. If it does it in the house, dont look at it, touch it or talk to it......this is very important! Even if you look at the dog you are giving it attention....be patient! It's really hard not to give the dog any attention when it's at your feet wagging it's tail, you HAVE to ignore it when it's done something wrong. Eventually the dog will learn. Try and socialise (sp) the dog as much as possible. My dog is 6 months old now and I take him to dog classes every week (£1.50) you dont need to spend fortunes as most teach the same things, the most important part is the socialisation. Remember what I briefly mentioned above about words. Dont use long sentences when your trying to tell the dog off or praise the dog or getting the dog to do somethimg. Bad boy, Gooooood boy, sit, down (lie down), off (anything from chairs to beds), LEAVE IT (firm voice) these are all important but very short commands. Dogs are like 16 year olds, all they hear is blah blah blah blah blah. I hope this helps. |
Cheers Matt,
thing is he is house trained i.e. he won't do anything while you are around!!! Plus he is 2 years old but I did get it from the dogs home. I'll try again the ignoring game:) |
Hi mate-would suggest that you get a collapsible cage from pet shop and put him in it when theres no one in-dogs nature is to not sh$t in there own bed so he won't do it-he see's you as the dominant male and when he cowers down and pees its him showing you that he's submissive-forget about the shouting and slapping him routine-it doesn't work-you need to spend as much time as possible with him and let him outside as much as possible-try changing when you feed him so you can work out when he needs to go -keep at it and you'll get there.
I've keep dogs for years(as the name suggests) and have seen it all,so don't let it get you down. husky |

The ignoring game is really hard, I hate doing it....but it works. Husky made a really valid point about a cage, I dont use one as I dont think I need too, but loads of people recommend them for various reasons (including weeing). Good luck, pm me if you need any more help. |
Thanks guys
appreciate your help on this. |
Might be worth getting a cage matey if you can....I am using one for Choc and have ever had a problem with him peeing in it.
Good luck Jo. |
Cannot afford anything at the mo:(
But have found an alternative and that is to keep him on his lid which is then attached to the radiator behind his basket:):) he ain't going anywhere LOL |
I don't know what have we let ourselves in for with these dogs matey, I am still struggling with the barking when I leave him during the day......good job we love him or else he would be gone....little bugger :D
