Bizzare Theft!
 

Ok, so I've had my bar ends nicked sometime yesterday, parked outside the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. Bought replacements and went to fit them to find that they'd nicked the plastic cover for my tool kit as well!!!

(I'm guessing they were after the tools and that the alarm scared them off.)

Just wondering if anyone has a spare cover they can bring along on Friday, or if anyone knows where I can get one from?

Can't believe people would steal this stuff. It's just weird!

Either a drunk or druggie scumbag thinking he can get a few quid for them.... or another SV ower whos had those bits nicked off his bike thinking your bike is a free for all mobile parts store.

do you actually mean just the black plastic wallet that the toolkit comes in? If so I've got a couple spare, I'll dig one out for you, I don't use the original toolkit any more anyway.

Not even the wallet, just the plastic panel from the bit where the wallet lives. Secures with one pop-stud. I think it's different on 04 and earlier bikes, but on 05+ the tool kit lives just in front of the back wheel on the left hand side.

Most annoying thing about this theft is that I'm assuming whoever knicked it must know the bike, to know where the tool box is, so possibly a fellow SVer.

Worst comes to worst Spares Direct on the Harrow Road can order me one for about 16 quid, but I'm worryingly skint at the mo. (So much so that £16 seems like a lot!)

doesn't the toolkit live under the seat? well mine would if i had a tool kit, think it's still in pieces at Jambo's. don't see the point in keeping the toolkit where it can be reached by unwanted hands... makes it easier to get things off your bike does it not?? :?

tbh, i wouldn't bother and just keep it under the pillion seat

The toolkit lives under the seat on early bikes but there's a little black box with the toolkit in it just to the rear of the shock on the later ones, this means:
1) More under seat storage
2) Adjusting the preload on the rear shock is a total pain
3) people can use your toolkit to rob bits off your bike
4) You probably won't realise your toolkit is missing until you need it most

Yep - as I found out, but thanks to Jambo got it sorted in the end.

Need to replace my toolkit anyways - all that will survive from the standard one will be the pre-load adjuster.

Keep the spark plug removal tool, it is well useful. Especially when I break down again. Although it works well for the SV too, it means you can remove the front plug without having to remove the radiator.

The rest of it is pretty rubbish however. A recommended set of tools would be a smallish set of ball ended allen keys (4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm?), 10mm, 12mm and 14mm (for said spark plug tool) combination spanners, slim nosed pliers, flat blade and philips screwdrivers, and if space a small ratchet with 10mm and 12mm sockets. All wrapped up in a rag you don't mind getting oily.

I have a chum who's RD250 was chained up under his bedroom window, overnight someone stole the engine. Unbolted the exhausts and carefully disconnected all of the cables etc, unbelievable.

Atleast you wer'nt left with this!!
