Yes or No?

I've been offered a nearly mint '94 Fireblade with lots of extras as a straight swap for my slightly dented (no front end) SV650S. The Blade is 'straight' (HPI clear, mot & tax,not raced or dropped) and the deal is kosher. What would you do? The deal is a straight swap no cash either way.

What are you waiting for? Bite.....hand....

Do it - get that bike before the vendor changes his mind :)

The original 'blades were known as "flippin mental wheelie machines". Bear in mind it's a group 16 or 17 for insurance purposes. It also might have the 16" front wheel which means tankslappers... but a 17" wheel might fit - check the owner's forums first

You do realise that minters are becoming rare, and collectors will pay a premium for a good 'un.

i do like the first blade 91/92 was it? classic.

jonboy99 20-10-06 08:36 PM

Won't it qualify for classic insurance at that age? Could be a bargain, but what year is your SV? I can't imagine a 12 year old bike would be worth more than about 2k.

So the blade is probably worth £1500 - £2000 resale price? How much is the SV worth on the road? and cost for fixing?

Jester666 21-10-06 09:16 AM

SV is a 2001 and needs a full front end.
The Blade is the 17" front wheel model and has a full Renegade system, CCC road/race can, original exhaust system, double bubble screen, single seat unit + original, newish 207s, Datool III alarm, K&N filters, Dynojet.
The fella who wants the SV races in the Euro Twins series and had his race trailer stolen. He saw mine and ofered the swap as he is deperate to race. He has all the spares needed to get it on the track.
I can't see any fault with the swap at all!

Take the swop but the front wheel on the 'blade wasn't 17" as standard. Not to fret tho, plenty of 'blade owners fitted a 17" front wheel from a different HONDA to slow the handling down a bit. Also makes a better option for tyre choice.
Whatcha waiting for??

Warren 21-10-06 09:30 AM

and you actually need a poll to decide ?

jeeez, these bikes are worth more than SV's in decent condition, as well as being more capable machines,

even if you decide the blade aint for you, what have you lost ?

a written off SV ? - oh well, chin up :)

jonboy99 21-10-06 09:38 AM

2001 SV? Go for it. If it was say a K6 with bent forks, you'd have to do some cold hard sums, but sounds like a bargain now.
