K3 won't start - help me diagnose
Hi folks, long time no, er, read.
Still not sold my bike, actually I've not been trying very hard TBH. It's looking good but when I went to start it it won't fire-up. Key in, the lights and dash come on and there is the usual wurring noise of the injectors, although this seems quieter than before. When I hit the starter button, there is no ignition, just a strange clicking noise coming from under the pillion seat (very rapid fire like click/click/click/click/click). I'm hoping the battery is just too low to provide enough charge for an ignition and the clicking is just the starter motor trying to fire??? If so, can I use a car battery charger on the bike's battery? I can't afford an optimate or anything like that but are there any bike chargers that would do the trick that are a bit cheaper? Is the SV battery 12v? Thanks as usual. |
Yep, that's flat battery. Do you have a car charger? You could jump it off a car to get it going, and take it for a decent ride to charge it back up, that'd usually work...

Hey mate.
So I can just jump it off my car and ride it around for a while?? Sweet, I'll do that soon. Was a bit worried incase it was different voltages or sumit, didn't want to burn the thing! You know me, bit of a numpty. Cheers Andy. |

I know this after pusing it uphill for 5miles :| |
Sounds like a flat battery to me. Has it been stood for ages not being used ? If so you might want to pop the tank off and drain the fuel out thats in there. Unleaded doesnt keep well and it goes stale. So even if you have a good battery, bike still might not start.

The clicking is the relay under the seat, as above, flat battery, easy fix.

Thanks guys.
Yeah, fuel is very old, been sitting around since Feb unused! I'll whip the tank off and drain it. Ride safe. |

Car charger is not good for bike batteries, but you could probably get away with it as long as you only put it on for about half an hour.Too much boost compared to the trickle charge that bike batteries like.I would guess your battery is close to being fubared after being left since Feb,but you might get away with it.Can you borrow an optimate?Stale fuel might be an issue,as might water in the fuel from condensation,so fresh fuel would be a good idea too. They really don't like being left standing for ten months.

if you can get an optimate just put it on once a week to keep battery in tip top conditon. thats what i was told, and that is what i do
