Need another cage - recommendations

Need to replace the cage - my wee antique 205xs won't last through the salt ridden roads without a stripdown and rebuild. Am also fed up the 26mpg it returns in traffic. The ZX9R gets 48mpg, but I'm not running that through the salt and crap days. It already tries to kill you whenever the roads are a wee bit greasy, never mind the wet......

I want a sporty car with the toys - leather, A/C, cruise, alloys, remote locking and a diesel engine. (I have access to a large diesel truck all day, a jerry can and a rubber hose  ). The boss won't miss a couple of gallons a day when I burn through 280 litres of diesel a day.....

But I'm not looking for a new car (Can't afford it, plus you lose a stack in depreciation), am wanting to spent £3.5K max. I'm also single so I don't need a huge tank of a thing. I also want something that's got a bit of poke, and can comfort cruise at 85 all day without revving the tits off it..

was looking at a "52" plate Vectra 1.9CDTI in SXI trim going for £4K. A bit too big.
Vauxhall Astra 3dr in SXI and SRI trims even secondhand are selling for stupidly high money.

Open the forum to ideas....

clio dci 100.

ok clio maybe a bit girly for a trucker but the dci 100 is the 100bhp model and pretty darn nippy for a diseasel. (a remap will take it to 130 which is awesome for a 1.5 derv)

cheapest road tax bracket is only £50 per annum yep £50 a year!

low insurance group

its got all the toys even rain sensitive wipers and auto headlights (not sure on leather seats tho?)

and the best bit is it get 60+ mpg

should get one for £3.5k aswell you'll struggle to find any decent VAG cars for that
