Engine tone changes when clutch is pulled/released

Hi

When my pointy SV is in netural and i pull in the clutch or release it there is a small change in engine noise. Is this normal?

Bike has only done 1800 miles.

yes, the clutch is always spinning, so disenging will stop the gearbox shaft from spinning and diffrent noises will happen.

Ah sweet. Thanks mate :D

Hi.

As long as the revs don't drop when you pull the clutch in and the noise change is only minor then there should be no problem.

Tim.

No it won't, it'll only stop if it's in gear and the rear wheel is stationary, otherwise the clutch continues to rotate which is why you get the 'clunk' when you put it into gear, that's the various parts of the 'box still turning until your size ten makes them mesh, at which point the clutch centre and plain plates come to a halt. The size of the 'clunk' is dependent on how much torque the the clutch is carrying while 'disengaged', which is affected by a number of factors, primarily adjustment.

PS. The noise is the release bearing being loaded and unloaded.

Ok, i shortened it down a bit so not to make it complex.

Always wondered about that - thanks Mr Squid

Nothing to worry about - but check your oil level anyway...
